Mga kabatan-onan gikan sa Ubay, Alicia, Pilar, Candijay, Guindulman ug Mabini
nagkahiusa bahin sa pagpanalipod sa Carood Watershed ug Kinaiyahan.

Ubay-LGU ug **Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) — ***International Citizen Service (ICS) Volunteers, TEAM VI 100 gipangunahan ang CAROOD YOUTH JAM adtung niaging Hunyo 28, 2014, uban ang sobra 150 nga mga kabatan-onan gikan sa mga lungsod sa Alicia, Pilar, Candijay, Guindulman ug Mabini. Nahimong ‘backdrop’ ang kanindot sa kinaiyahan sa pagpahigayon kining dakong okasyon sa Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Mega Nursery, San Pascual, Ubay.

 “Strengthening the heart of the organization.”—ang maong tumong sa youth jam nga ang mga kabatan-onan ug ang ilang mga organisasyon maoy mangusog nga muapil sa pag-protektar sa Carood Watershed ug sa Kinaiyahan. Ang Carood Watershed ang gihiusa sa mga lungsod sa Ubay, Alicia, Candijay, Pilar, Mabini ug Guindulman. Ginaprotektahan ug ginapangalagaan kini sa Carood Watershed Model Forest Management Council (CWMFMC). 

Human kining youth jam, ang mga VSO-ICS Volunteers nangandoy nga matapok ang mga potensyal sa mga kabaton-anan para mabuo ang Union of Carood Youth Organizations (UCYO) na mahimong tingog sa Kabatan-onan sa CWMFM Council. Pinaagi ani ma-empower ug ma-train sila para mahimong epektibo ug maayong sunod nga mga leaders sa mga lungsod sa Carood Watershed.

nagkahiusa sad para sa Carood Watershed.

“Nanghinaot ko nga malipay mo ug makatoon mo sa atoang Youth Jam.”, mao lang ni ang isa sa mga binisaya na gipaningkamotang masulti ni Harrhy James, British Volunteer, sa mga partisipante. Maskin nagkabulol-bulol ug pagsulti, gisundan kini dayon sa tagalog speech sa isa pa ka British Volunteer nga si Alexander Allford, “Ang kabataan ay ang pag-asa ng bayan. Patunayan natin yan ngayong araw. Kabataan ng Carood Watershed, Kaya natin to!” Naghatag kini ug kayagaw sa mga partisipante aron pormal nga masugdan ang Youth Jamboree.

Pangtindog ug pagpalambo sa usa ka Komunidad nahimong matudlo sa mga kabatan-onan pinaagi sa dula ug mga challenges.

Bente-uno (21) tanan ang VSO-ICS Youth Volunteers, pulo (10) ka Pinoy ug onse (11) ka mga British Volunteers. Gihimo nila ang youth jam pinaagi sa mga dula ug mga aktibidades nga ang tumong mao ang matudlo ug maayong pamatasan, leadership, camaraderie ug unity. Gihuman ni Faitherlaw Montallana, Pinoy Volunteer, ang Youth Jam sa pag-estorya sa iyang kinabuhi kung ngano siya nahimong youth advocate ug aktibo sa community development ug volunteerism.

Kabatan-onan gikan sa 6 ka lungsod na pagkita ug kompiyansa sa pagpakita sa ilang talento.

Sa lain-laing eskwelahan ug organisasyon gikan ang mga partisipante sa Youth Jam. Para mu-represent sa UBAY, naa ang 4H Club (Head, Health, Heart, and Hands) ug Ubay Parish Youth Ministry. Para sa CANDIJAY, naa ang mga student leaders gikan sa Tambongan National High School, Saint Joseph Academy, Bohol Island State University (BISU), ug ang Junior Kaugmaon Student Volunteer Association (JKSVA). Para sa PILAR, naa ang Youth for Environnment (YFE) Organization, Para sa MABINI, niabot ang Youth for Environment and School Organization (YES-O), Aguipo Youth Organization ug ang Concepcion High School. Para sa GUINDULMAN, mao ang Basdio Youth Group. Ug para sa ALICIA, naa ang Alicia Carood Environmentalists (ACEs), Alicia Youth Organization ug ang Alicia Parish Youth Ministry.

Nahimong malamposon kining Youth Jam tungod sa tabang ug suporta ni/ sa: Ubay-LGU, Ma’am Bernardita ‘Adet’ Alvarnado ug DENR Mega Nursery staff, Mr. Noel Villanueva of Ubay-LGU, Department of Health (DOH)- Ubay First-aiders ug ang mga LGU sa Alicia, Candijay, Pilar, Guindulman ug Mabini.

* Ang Watershed o Catchment Basin maoy usa ka land area nga maoy taga salo ug taga ipon sa tanang tubig gikan sa ulan gikan sa taas nga lugar paadto sa babaw na lugar unya mugawas sa isa ka common body of water nga pwede mahimong saba, dam o dagat. Kauban diri tanang bundok, basak, ug mga kagubatanan nga naa sa ining lugara. Tanang tao sa kalibutan kay nagapuyo sa Watershed. Sa Carood Watershed, ang tanang tubig gikan sa taas na mga parte, mao ni ang Ubay, Pilar, Guindulman dayon sa katungaan ay ang Alicia paadto sa babaw nga mga lugar sa Candijay ug Mabini unya mugawas sa Cogtong Bay.

**VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas) usa ka international development charity maoy nagtrabaho pinaagi sa pagboluntaryo nga nagasuporta sa mga kabatab-onan sa kalibutan para sa pagpalambu sa komunidad.

***ICS (International Citizen Service) Programme usa ka global volunteering experience nga nagasuporta sa mga kabatan-onan gikan sa lain-laing backgrounds na magkaparte sa pagtabang sa mga pinaka mga pobre nga mga komunidad sa kalibutan. Nagahatag kini sa libu-libo nga mga 18-25 anyos nga mga kabatan-onan gikan sa UK ug Pilipinas ug tsansa nga makahatag ug tabang sa pagwagtang o paghanaw sa mga kapobre sa lain-laing lugar sa kalibutan. Ginapondohan kini sa gobyerno sa United Kingdom- Department for International Development (DFID).

‘Passion’ by: Krissy

I couldn’t think of a better title for this so here you go. Let’s start with the word passion.

What do you really mean when you say passion? Is it really that strong uncontrollable emotion or some “yeah, I want it. I get it.” Kind of thing?

Right, I’ll tell you my experience about passion.

So here I am in Bohol, volunteering for a 3-month program, focusing on the contribution of young people to the sustainable resource management of a watershed and I say, “making a difference, as young as I am.”

Sounds like angels singing, yeah?

Yup, You felt that right.

May 2013, somebody handed me a flier of a volunteering program and my heart leaped. I was happy, afraid and what?.... excited! I just couldn’t think of a better adjective to best describe it then. I love volunteering! It’s something I really wanna do.

And so guess wha? May 2014 , I was told that I qualified for the program. So here I am in this amazing town of Bohol, living life to the fullest. Meeting new amazing people. Standing on a curb-waiting for buses (mostly a daily situation). It’s fun! Sometimes it makes me grouchy a little, but that's just it. Life is not just all bright days or beautiful sunsets. Right?

Bohol is stunning. And I tell you, you will fall in love with it, every day.

Sometimes it makes me wonder about those people who stay in their nutshells and refuse to live life out of their comfort zones.

I mean, Really, Life is amazing. Enjoy it!

‘Forest Formers’ Community Action Day (CAD) - Thurs 12th June

Our first CAD was held at the DENR mega-nursery in San Pascual, Ubay. Over 100 young people from 4 youth organisations attended the event which was held outdoors and set against a beautiful backdrop of rolling hills lined by neat rows of saplings. The day began with an introduction from the VSO volunteers and Lilibeth of the Carood Watershed Model Forest Management Council. 

After the importance of forest management to a watershed was made clear it was time for a walk and a talk with a DENR forester to see the nursery’s different plantations. Half an hour later the now sweaty group returned, their attention rewarded by volunteers distributing snacks. The morning progressed with an exciting firefighting talk and display given by the Ubay fire service. Volunteers and the youth got stuck in as they took it in turns to extinguish a burning pyre of dry leaves. Everyone was impressed by the ferocity with which a forest fire can spread and the take home message was well received.

Before lunch the main activity was kindly prepared by the DENR staff. The youth were given an engaging demonstration of tree planting and how a tree nursery works before getting their hands dirty preparing seedlings in small cellophane bags. Everyone gathered excitedly around a large mound of soil each tasked with preparing 10 seedlings. They say many hands make light work and surely enough an hour later thousands of seedlings were ready for planting.

Lunchtime beckoned and, in true Filipino style, was followed by a talent contest. The different youth groups showcased their finest including an all boy dance trio, a medley artist and hosts of excellent singers. The Filipino volunteers were represented by Eden ‘voice of an angel’ Monsanto but the UKVs had nothing to show for themselves. Rumour has it they are forming a dance troupe but we will have to wait and see…

As the hilly vista of the mega nursery became silhouetted by fast approaching thunderclouds it was time to wrap things up. There was time for a large group photo before the heavens opened and the youth clambered to get on the backs of trucks headed for home. All in all it was a great day and as they left, many of the youth were already asking when we were holding the next one!
